doing something a little different with this weeks Sketch Monday. I ended up drawing a piece on Saturday that had been sitting in my brain for a couple of days. The drawing came out very quickly thanks to having the idea pretty much right there in my brain so there wasn't alot of searching that needed to be done on the page. Immediately upon finishing it I started up a second one. Same composition, same elements, just moved the camera in closer. Here are the results.
I like both pieces for their differences if that makes any sense. What I'd really appreciate though is some feedback. Tell me what you like about them, what's working, and what isn't.

I like them both. The top one has great drama due to the scale, but in both pieces, I want to see more of a relationship in some way between bg and fg. The white separation implying distance and mist is a cool device, but I think in order for it to be truly effective the sky cannot be the same color/texture. Maybe adding tone( using line of course) to the sky behind the demon will bring the focus back to the confrontation.
ReplyDeleteThanks Steve. I considered doing something behind the demon figure to make him pop a little more. I had originally tried it in between the larger figure and smaller figure but it didn't really work.
ReplyDeleteIs it me or did the sword shrink as you 'zoomed in'? And the clouds/mist that the demon is coming out of doesn't reach the mountaintop?
ReplyDeleteI prefer the bottom one, something in the way it sits on the page works for me. The guy on the top one is more dynamic, I guess, but it actually makes the bottom one look more stoic, and interesting.
